PAST BUSINESS
The Cookie Exchange on December 8 went very well. Laurie Thorpe from Finding Common gave a short presentation on Living Room Groups and how they work. Basically it is a group of 10-12 people getting together monthly to share ideas about anything under the sun, develop trusted friendships, and spend an hour or so enjoying each other's company. Some groups may also brainstorm an "Action" item that everyone will work on before the next gathering.
Laurie showed us the new FCG yard sign and banner. Anyone who wants to display one at their home can contact her directly. I have also attached the current FCG billboard which is on the northside of the board at the Arden gas station on the eastside of N395. If you are interested in making a financial contribution to the billboard project, please contact her at LaurieThorpe@gmail.com ___________________________________________________________
NEW BUSINESS
Business Meeting-Monday, January 12th, 2026 1-3p at the UCC Church in Chewelah. We will have a brief 15 minute business meeting, after which we will continue the meeting as a Living Room Group, with open discussion on current issues or whatever topics the group decides. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
Our monthly meetings will be conducted in this way going forward - an abbreviated business portion followed by a Living Room Group format, with snacks and beverages. We will continue to meet on the second Monday of each month from 1-3p at the Church until April, then we will switch back to 6-8p. I will continue to send a monthly newsletter, with information about protests or other important dates. Please email me if you have announcements for the newsletter, or if you know someone that would like to be added to (or removed from) our mailing list. Shout out to the UCC - we sincerely appreciate their hospitality and kindness. The church provides a perfect meeting place for us, as well as gives us ample space to expand as we grow.
Don't forget our website. It is still being worked on, but it is up and running. It has current information and is a way to reach out to CRC as well.

THOUGHTS FROM YOUR EDITOR
It's been a busy year for the CRC with lots of things happening at once and a big learning curve. We have settled, gone through some necessary changes and hopefully have found our way. The country, though, has a was to go (3 years), I would say)!! There are a lot of things we have to focus on but I think the most important is winning Congress back. the people need to come first instead of the very wealthy, mega corporations, and people who want a small authoritarian government. At this point those are the people that are leading our government. They have been wanting to for some time.
I have been reading an "EXPLAINED SUMMARY" of Project 2025. I find it interesting and sad at the same time. WE DIDN'T PAY ENOUGH ATTENTION TO WHAT WAS REALLY GOING ON! We let what the Heritage Foundation and others - corporations and private donors - spend an unbelievable amount of money to get him to the finish line. They spent time aligning who was going to be in his administration from the past and new actors who would be nothing but loyalists. They didn't have to have smarts, only loyalty. We have found out the hard way. Rule of Law, Constitutionality, and Human Decency doesn't matter. This is not who America is nationally or globally.
From the book, "Agenda 47 and Project 2025 share a striking number of policy goals, revealing a deep ideological alignment despite his public attempts to distance himself from the Heritage Foundation's initiative. The overlap between these two blueprints for conservative governance is extensive and telling."
I was overwhelmed by what I thought I knew and what I clearly didn't, I guess. It also amazes me that in a year all this stuff has been accomplished, either in part or in whole. I know it has happened, but a part of me keeps hoping that it can't continue. It has to stop. I know Congress has to come of the hypnotic trance he has them in, or many more people will be hurt worse than they already have been. In my lifetime I have learned that anything can happen, to anyone, at any time. I think that is why Chewelah Rural Caucus is important - to support people in need through providing information, listening and helping any way we can. It is about being there for each other.
One last thing I would like to share is a book I am starting to read, What's the Matter with Kansas? How Conservatives won the heart of America by Thomas Frank. I learned about it in a training on "Saving Democracy". It is a New York Times Bestseller, and is praised as "A brilliant and funny vivid portrait of an upside down world where blue-collar patriots recite the Pledge while they strangle their life chances; where small farmers cast their votes for a Wall Street order that will eventually push them off their land; and where a group of frat boys, lawyers, and CEO's has managed to convince the country that it speaks on behalf of the PEOPLE."
THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!! SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!! julie
